Program Description:
Taiwan Strategies To Community Health Practices (GCHB 6150)
May 14-27, 2018

This course is designed to provide a field study opportunity in communities for the aims of learning global public health practices, cross-culture communication and interaction, and alternative community health strategies. 10-12 students from partner Universities in Taiwan (Asia University and China Medical University) are paired with 10-12 students from Tulane University to form cross-cultural teams to research and solve develop a plan to address community health problems identified in the field study. In this course, Tulane students will travel to Taiwan and visit health organizations at the national, provincial, city, county and community levels. Lectures and discussions will be provided by experienced faculty from university partners, governmental officials, and field-based practitioners in Taiwan. At the end of the course, the cross-culture student teams will be required to make a power point presentation on their identified community health problem and submit a written field report.

Eligibility & Admission Guidelines

All Tulane graduate students are eligible to take the course. A $900 non-refundable course fee is required to be eligible to enrol.

Housing and Meals

Students are housed in local hotels. Students stay two to a room with separate beds. Standard hotel amenities are provided. Free internet is available. Free breakfast is provided in the hotels.

Payment Terms & Schedule

Course cost is $900 (this included lodging, local transportation, admission fees, breakfast, and some lunches and dinners). Students must also pay fees for 3 tuition hours. Course enrollment is blocked until a non-refundable $900 course fee is submitted. Payment for the course is expected with the application.

Registration & Scheduling

Registration is complete when all application materials and payments are received. Course scheduling is arranged on a first-come, first-served basis.

12 Tulane students maximum per course.

Passport

A valid passport is required for all U.S. citizens travelling to Taiwan. No visa is required for US citizens if staying 90 days or less. Visa requirements vary for other nationalities. International students should check the requirements for their respective countries. For US passport fees and instructions see the U.S. Department of State site.  

It is very important that you apply early for your US passport. The Tulane Office of Study Abroad assumes no responsibility in assisting students with passports. Please contact the Office of Study Abroad if you need documentation indicating you are on a study abroad program.

Medical and Global Rescue

All students must provide proof of international medical insurance coverage. Students have the option of purchasing this insurance through Geoblue at their own cost. Students are also covered by Global Rescue.
